The Difference Between Internet Hot Spots and Air Cards
Hot Spots: Wireless hot spots are most commonly associated with coffee shops and other public places around the world. The technology is the same as you can have at home through your cable company. How do hot spots work? There is hardware (a wireless router) in some back office or installed in the ceiling or possibly just lying around on a counter. This router would transmit internet connectivity up to 100-150 feet within it's radius. Multiple people can share this same connection at the same time. (Not totally secure but then again, what is?)
How air cards work: Air cards are just cell phones but without the buttons we are used to like numbers and letters. They plug into your computer (laptop or desktop) and they dial a separate cell phone number (private to the owner) which provides 24 hour internet service. (Make sure you get an unlimited monthly plan) With an aircard, you can take your internet wherever you go. You can choose a different provider than you have your cell phone with but it's easier to just have it all on one bill.
